Hard Chrome Alternative:

Thermal spray coatings outperform hard chrome in many applications:

Thermal Spray can restore the function of worn parts. Adding life to a part reduces cost-of-ownership and adds value to a customer’s equipment and their operation.

Thermal Spray is a more environmentally responsible process than other existing processes. A case in point is traditional Hard Chrome Electroplating.

Traditional hard chrome plate produces hexovalent chrome wastages and exposes personnel to carcinogenic by-products. The Environmental Protection Agency is presently lowering the exposure threshold limit value (TLV). These regulatory changes will have far reaching and extensive influence in the chrome industry.

Thermal spray, in lieu of chrome, uses the latest High Velocity Oxygen Fueled (HVOF) spray equipment and wear and corrosion resistant materials. This produces surface treatments that are not only more environmentally responsible but also outperform traditional chrome in terms of wear, corrosion and fatigue debit. Add this to thermal spray’s ability to do larger sized parts faster than chrome, and the value compounds.

Lower Cost Performance Coatings

In some instances where high surface hardness is not required (but rather wear resistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance or the like), the use of our Lower Cost Performance Coatings might be an option as well. Corrosion resistance and chemical resistance are far superior to hard chrome. Wear resistance is achieved through a combination of lubrication and abrasion resistance. The end result could very well be the same with the exception that LCPC will save you money.
